Why Discord Is So Great

Discord is the communication service for everyone, making it easy to talk every day and hang out more often. Discord creates environments that make relationships manageable for ambitious, hard-working, and career-driven millennials who want to spend more time with friends and family while still achieving their goals.

Servers! More Servers!

Your house means your rules. A server is a place to call your own; you can organize topics into channels and customize them to make everyone feel welcome. Discord has worked effortlessly to achieve an inclusive world where no one feels like an outsider. It's all about having fun while maintaining relationships in a progressive way.

Hardwired Together

To connect consumers with this product, “Hardwired Together” brings to life remote experiences in a creative way to show how “in the flesh” hanging out online can be. Each execution shows unexpected endings with a surprise reveal of classic ways people would typically hang out in person but done remotely.

Girl A is trying on different outfits and asks her friend for advice, “Do you think this works?

Girl B responds, “I think I like the first one better; what do you think about mine?

Girl A: “I like how the first dress matches your skin tone.

Girl B: “I’m so glad you’re here with me.” Both girls giggle.

[We then see the big reveal of her friend’s face on a smartphone screen, video chatting using Discord instead of being there in person.]

Split-Screen Magic

[The commercial starts with a peaceful acoustic guitar melody playing. Taking turns on the camera, each musician is showcased playing a guitar. The setting appears to be in a large room, and judging by the paint color and lighting, it suggests they are together in person.]

[The commercial opens with a close-up of a person tuning a guitar, creating a sense of anticipation.]

Professor: “Let’s turn it up a bit.”

Student: “I did that five minutes ago.”

[Both teacher and student chuckle as the teacher turns up his amplifier volume.]

Professor: Begins counting*, “1, 2, 3, 4.”

[The music starts, and the split-screen effect is introduced, exposing that the two musicians are, in fact, on video chat with each other and not in the same room. The surprise is accompanied by heartwarming smiles from both musicians, reinforcing their connection through music, even with a significant distance between them.]

Guy Fieri, the culinary road warrior known for his bold flavors, found himself on a different kind of journey—a virtual one. Constantly on the road for "Guy's All-American Road Trip," we invited him to activate a social media challenge to show how hanging out remotely can be just like when he is back home, but the viewers don’t know that… yet.

We had Guy and his mom set up Discord to cook and hang out together in a similar outdoor area but in different locations. This way, viewers feel they are in person when, in reality, they are video chatting with each other.

Eliminate The Distance With Guy

Setting: A cozy, woodsy backyard area with trees, a stove, and cooking materials. The scene implies an intimate, in-person gathering.

[Scene opens with a close-up of Guy making his introduction.]

Guy: "Hey everyone! Welcome to this spicy special livestream. Today, I'm thrilled to introduce a very special guest: my mom, Penelope."

[Camera transitions smoothly to Penelope.]

Penelope: "Hello, everyone! I'm so excited to be here and share one of our cherished family recipes with you."

[Both Guy and Penelope raise their glasses of wine and toast each other before taking a sip.]

Guy: "Alright, folks, today we're diving into a classic from my childhood. Mom, why don't you tell everyone what we're making today?"

Penelope: "We're making my famous Texas French toast bananas foster. It's a custard-soaked, banana-packed, caramel-drizzled delight with a fiery twist that no one can resist."

Guy: "Absolutely, these guys are truly irresistible!"

[The camera alternates between close-ups of Penelope and Guy as they cook and discuss the recipe step by step.]

Guy: "Now that we have this beautiful dish ready, let's give it a taste."

[Guy cuts a piece of the French toast, takes a bite, and chews with delight.]

Guy: "Wow, this really brings back some memories..."

[Suddenly, it’s revealed that Guy and his mom are actually on a video call when Penelope interrupts.]

Penelope: "My gosh, Guy, is that you chewing? How do I turn down your volume on this thing?

Guy: "Oh man! I didn’t realize my microphone was so sensitive. Let me fix that for us.

[Viewers see Guy’s screen as he adjusts his microphone settings on Discord to reduce sensitivity. Both laugh as the screen shows them in separate locations, appearing together.]

Guy: "Sorry about that, everyone; I couldn’t help myself, haha. It hurts me to say this but it looks like we're out of time for today. It was wonderful video chatting with you, Mom."

Penelope: "Thanks, son. Sharing our family recipe with the world meant so much to me. I hope everyone enjoys it as much as we do."

Penelope: "Thank you for having me. I can't wait to see you all again very soon! Take care!"

[Penelope waves goodbye, and her camera feed fades to black.]

[Guy addresses the viewers one last time.]

Guy: "Discord is an amazing way to stay connected. I encourage everyone to share your stories of how you bridged the gap with loved ones. I’ll personally select four finalists, and you guys will get to vote on who will to join us live on Discord next time. Good luck, stay cookin’, and rock on!"

[Guy's video feed fades to black, followed by a bold white text call to action on a black screen.]

Back when I was home, my mother and I had a tradition of cooking Sunday dinner together every weekend; obviously, that changed when I went off to college. Since tradition means so much to us, I decided to tell her about Discord. Since it’s so easy to use, even a caveman could figure it out, she would have no problem, and we could keep our tradition alive. Let’s just say I’ve been here for a year and haven’t missed a Sunday.

My friends and I would always throw house parties and have all our friends over for a fun night full of gaming and cracking some cold ones, but we would often get noise complaints and have to quiet down. After most of us were separated due to work and school, we started to get together on Discord for our hangouts. The funny part about it is that we have a better time online than in person. No more noise complaints!

Bowling has always been a big part of my life. Since I was a small child, I have always been on a bowling team, and I have made many friends in the process. When I had to relocate for work, I had to leave all of my good friends behind, but with the help of Discord, we were still able to bowl together. We set up our smartphones to show the lane and the scoreboard and take turns as if we were in person. Thank you, technology lol.

Dungeons & Dragons is my escape from reality. But now that I’m stuck at college and my close friends are back home, we can’t play in person. Luckily, Discord is around because no other app allows consumer-made bots to be invited to the server for quality-of-life needs. Anyway, we got together online and made a D&D server, inviting the bot that keeps a record of our experience gains and statistics, and just like that, we can enjoy weekly games together again with animated boards as a bonus! Thank you, Discord.
